Springtime

Well, just like that March is almost over. I'm not sure what's happening with the time lately, but it's sure getting away from me.

Emma just got done having spring break, so we spent the last couple of weeks shuffling kids back and forth from grandma and grandpa's house and back again. Elliott gets jealous when Emma gets sleepovers by herself, so we also bring Elliott out there sometimes to have his own sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

First of all, it's finally spring! And even better yet, the weather has finally started to warm up and be "normal" again. The snow is all melted away, the weather has been mostly sunny and in the 50s, and it's generally been pretty nice. Unfortunately, between the snow melting and some rain, there has been some record-setting flooding in the area. Sioux Falls was pretty bad a couple weeks ago, and Nebraska and parts of Minnesota got hit really hard as well. There is never really a dull moment in the midwest.

Emma had her first sleepover a couple of weekends ago. She was so very excited to have her friend Lily, and Lily's sister Laura over for a sleepover. We started the day at Jim and Barb's house and worked in the greenhouses while the girls (and Elliott) all played outside and had a really fun time getting really muddy. After lunch, the girls and us headed back home to play there, while Elliott stayed at the farm for a sleepover. Emma had a really good time with her friends and she is already asking when she can have a sleepover again. The girls played, painted fingernails, watched a movie, and then finally went to bed around 10:30pm.

This past week, I had Thursday and Friday off since Emma didn't have school all week. I wanted to give Barb a break from having Emma all week, so I enjoyed a couple days off with the kids.

Thursday was a really busy day. I took the kids to Brookings, and we spent 4 hours at the Children's Museum. 4 hours!! That was a long day, but they had a blast and played super hard the whole time. I had to bribe them with happy meals for lunch so we could finally leave, and the kids enjoyed some happy meals, with some shakes for dessert. Talk about the best day ever!! After lunch, we visited Dennis at the vet clinic, and then we headed to the waterpark at the Days Inn. The waterpark has a lazy river, a nice kids area, hot tub, and a pool to play in. The kids could touch in most of the areas (which was nice) and they loved it! We played for a solid 2 hours, and then I had to tear them away. We got home at around 7pm, and I had two very tired kids on my hands.

On Friday, we spent the morning at home, cleaning and playing and waiting for Grandma Patty and Grandpa Jack to come. It was a beautiful, sunny 50 degree day, so the kids spent a lot of time outside. We did some sidewalk chalk, rode bikes, and went for a walk. My mom and dad arrived at around 3pm. We enjoyed some visiting and playing with them, and then ate supper at the bar and grill in Brandon. We ended the night by watching Wonder Woman, and then everyone was ready for bed.

Saturday was a really fun day. We headed to the Washington Pavillion for Ag Day, and everyone really enjoyed it. There were multiple booths on 3 different levels, and each booth had activities and/or treat related to Agriculture for the kids. The kids got to see a pig, a sheep, a goat, and baby chicks. They also got to plant some seeds, got some cool giveaways and had a lot of fun. There were a lot of people there! We also got a free lunch of BBqs, pulled pork, chips, carrots, milk, and ice cream. It was really good.

After lunch, we went to the Science Center for a while, and then we were all ready to have a break from the people and go home. After some rest, and a nap for Elliott, we all went bowling. It was really fun to bowl, and the kids really enjoyed it and the beer was ice cold!

On Sunday, we went to church, and then my parents headed home. In the afternoon, we all headed out to Jim and Barb's to grill steaks for John's birthday. The steaks were delicious, and we all enjoyed them while watching some March Madness basketball. That reminds me, the Jackrabbit ladies are in the sweet 16 and play on Friday night, which is really exciting news around here.

Today, Emma has her first practice for her soccer team that she is playing on this spring. She is super excited and can't wait to play. Also, it's sunny and 70 degrees today, so it's a perfect day for some soccer.

This week is crazy busy, but I love that the days are getting longer and warmer!!

March- In like a Lion.

March is here, and the big story around here is the weather. Basically, it has stayed cold. Like really, really cold. It has been at least 20 degrees below normal, and at times, the temps have been well below zero. It feels like spring is a million miles away.

Today is a really crazy weather day. It started raining at like 3 am, which caused flooding all over town since a lot of the drains are covered with snow and ice. Once the temps started to drop, the rain turned into freezing rain, and now snow. It's pretty gross outside. So, we are all just hanging out at home having a snow day. So far, we have had an art session, hotwheels, legos, and now we are watching the women's Jackrabbits team play in the summit league tournament. It's been a pretty fun day at home, I'm ready for a nap though as a cute little boy woke me up at 6 am.

Last weekend was pretty fun as well. On Saturday, I took the kids to the Library for a Dr. Suess day at the library. We had storytime, crafts, and just had a really good time. We ate some lunch at Fizoli's afterwards, and then headed home. I started to feel pretty lousy, so I made everyone have a nap, which went over well. After naps, I still felt crummy, so I stayed home while the kids and John went to Rory and Jacob's birthday party at the Stampede Game.

The kids had a really fun time. The made birthday cards for the boys, and helped pick out their gifts. They enjoyed pizza and gifts at the Polzins' house before heading to the Premier Center for the Stampede Game. They got to meet a Stampede Player, and each got a hotdog and a pop at the game. The Stampede lost, but everyone had a really good time.

This past week has been pretty uneventful. It's stayed pretty cold, and snowy. Last night we had the parents verses kids basketball game at Bethel. It was pretty fun to watch. The kids had fun running around with pom poms and cheering, and like usual, the kids beat the parents. It was a nice way to get out of the house and do something before being cooped up all day today.

Well, I better get back to tending the house, and cleaning up messes. If we get really motivated today, maybe we will sort through the toys in the basement.

Still dreaming of those spring days!!
