New Fall TV Shows

I really like when new fall TV shows come back on the air. With a one-year-old, I don't exactly watch a ton of TV, and hardly any of it live, but thank goodness for the internet, because I can watch my shows whenever I want, which is great.

I always like trying out some Pilot episodes to see if I like them enough to add the show to my list of current shows, here are some of the Pilots I have tried out:

1. Sleepy Hallow
-I don't really know why I watched this episode, but I heard a lot about it, so I gave it a shot. It was a pretty entertaining episode, but it didn't really get my attention enough for me to continue watching it. And it was a little weird. It's definitely different than anything else, but I think it tries a little too hard with the whole headless horseman thing. But it was okay, and if it sounds like your sort of thing, give it a whirl.

2. The Blacklist
-I'm not generally a James Spader fan, but I really liked this pilot episode. It was very entertaining, and it kept my attention the entire episode. I don't think every episode can keep up the pace to this one, but I am willing to continue watching at this point, and see what happens. I would highly recommend this show! It is sort of like Silence of the Lambs meets the Borne Identity. I liked it.

3. Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D
-Again, this one got a shot because of all the buzz, and a little bit because of Joss Whedon. I have watched Buffy and Angel back in the day, and surprisingly liked them, so with all the attention this show was getting I thought I would give it a whirl. I don't really know what I think. I am watching the pilot episode, while I type this, which maybe says it all. It's not bad, but it's kind of slow-moving at this point. Maybe it takes a few episodes to get going. I think I will try to pay closer attention here, and maybe give it a couple episodes. It's got potential.

Show's that are already on my list:

1. Bones
-I really enjoy this show. However, entering into season 9, it's best days are definitely behind them. I still find some episodes very entertaining and good, but some of the story lines are a little over the top. Like the whole Booth changing his mind about the proposal because Pelant (the bad guy) made him, and he can't tell Brennan why he changed his mind. I still like all the characters, it just feels like the tension is gone and they are running out of storylines a little bit. But, I have watched it since the beginning, so I will continue to the end.

2. Grey's Anatomy
-Again, I have watched this show since the beginning and now it is entering season 10. It was a lot better show back in the first few season, but it is still a very watchable and enjoyable show. It has had it's share of wacky, crazy story lines, but I still enjoy it. I hope they decide to have this the last season though, with Dr. Yang (Sandra Oh) leaving at the end of the season, and so many others having contracts expiring after the season, I hope they decide to end the show before so many regulars leave and they have to cancel the show.

3. NCIS:LA
   - I really enjoy this show. I have never really watched the original NCIS, but I started this show with the Pilot episode and have never really been disappointed. There has been an episode or two that was a little boring or I didn't exactly love the story line, but overall I never feel like I wasted my time watching an episode. I just watched the series premier last night, and I am really looking forward to where this season brings all the characters.

4. Scandal
-I didn't want to like this show. I'm not always a huge Shonda Rhimes fan. I didn't like Private Practice, and I feel like Shonda really likes herseld (Shondaland). But, I kept hearing all these things about the show, and I decided to give it a shot when I found it on Netflix. I binge-watched the first season, and I was hooked. I love the characters, and the show always takes you in some unexpected direction. It is definitely a guilty pleasure, but it's a fun ride :)

5. Breaking Bad
-This is an interesting show. It is really dark, and serious, and normally I wouldn't like a show like this. But this show is captivating. And talk about the anti-hero in Walter White. We don't have cable in out house, so I can only watch this on Netflix when it is available, so I am quite a ways behind the current season. I like this show, and can't wait to see how it all ends, hopefully I can avoid Spoiler Alerts until then.

6. Burn Notice
-My sister got me hooked on this show. I have enjoyed every single episode of this show from the beginning, and now it is ending. Actually, it has already ended, but since I don't have cable, I have 3 episodes left to watch. I am sad to see this show end, but it had a great run and it was always a fun hour of television.

7. Parenthood
-This show is so underrated. It seems to always have heartwarming, fun, entertaining episodes. I love the entire cast, and the story lines are always so sweet. This show is always on the brink of being cancelled, so I am enjoying it while it lasts.

8. Modern Family
-Great comedy with a great cast. There is a reason it has won so many Emmys. It makes me laugh and it's totally relatable. It's a wonderful half-hour of comedy.

9. How I Met Your Mother
   - I discovered this on Netflix, and it's a fun show. I don't love every single episode, some of them are a little boring, but when it's a show on Netflix, I can pick it up whenever I feel like it and no commercials!!

Okay, 11 shows seems like a lot. It is kind of a lot, but I watch them on my time, online. Some weeks I hardly watch any at all, other weeks I play catch up. And I am a TV show person, instead of a movie person. I really don't ever go to the movie theatre to watch a movie, and the last new release movie I saw was probably 8 months ago. So, I watch TV shows. I like being able to follow a story over a season for 20 hours, instead of just 2 hours in a movie.

So these are my shows, so if you are looking for a new show this fall season, feel free to pick any of the ones above. :)

Projects, Projects, Projects..

This last weekend was very project-filled. The weather was beautiful, we really didn't have any major plans, so we decided to get some stuff done around the house.

I did my typical clean-up the house tasks, but we also spend a lot of time getting yard work done. We mowed, and fertilized the lawn. We finally fixed one of our posts on our fence that had rotted away. We had been planning on fixing that post for like over a year now, and we finally got around to it. John's dad came out to help-they were digging holes, mixing cement, and we now have a post that actually holds our fence in place in the wind.

We have finally hired a contractor to fix our roof, gutters, window, screens, mailbox, and a few other things that were damaged in that hail storm about a month ago. This whole project has been sort of a headache. We got bids from about 5-6 different companies, and then we had to make a decision. We had to wait for our insurance money to get to us from AAA, and now finally we have someone hired. And they think they will be able to come to our house by the end of this week, or beginning of next week. Yay, for having that off our plate!

I have also been decorating for fall lately. I love fall. I love the cool mornings and evening, the leaves changing colors, the apple cider, apple crisp, football, decorating with pumpkins and all the fall colors.  Also the pumpkin spice and cinnamon apple candles in my house are awesome!! My mom gave me two boxes of fall/halloween decorations that she did not want anymore, so I have been having a lot of fun with those. And Barb has promised me some Mums and pumpkins from her greenhouse, so I am excited to get decorating with those!

We also got our new washer and dryer a couple weeks ago, I don't know if I mentioned that or not. But I love them. They are so much quieter and have so many more settings than my old set. Laundry is fun again!!

And now for an Emma update. I think this is the furthest in a post I have gotten without mentioning Emma in a long time! Emma is good. Still walking all over the place like a champ. She is happy as can be during the day, but the nights are still kinda terrible right now. She goes to bed really well, but then she starts having coughing fits that wake her up, and then that wakes us up. I don't know if this is just a teething thing, or if she has a cold, but I wish it would stop already. We have a doctor's appointment on Monday, so hopefully they can help us in some way, or figure out what's going on.

My sister had a wedding in Colorado last weekend, so she parked her vehicle here because she flew out of Sioux Falls with some friends. So, Rachel and Emma had a day together on Monday, and they had a lot of fun together! They went out to eat and then to the zoo. It's nice when Emma gets to hang out with her aunt by herself, and Rachel loves it.

Emma and I hung out outside yesterday. It was such a beautiful evening, and Emma had fun just running around outside and burning off some energy.

Sorry for the wordy blog post, but we have had a lot of stuff going on lately!! Hopefully, we are done with all this insurance stuff and repairs for a while. I am currently enjoying some apple cider, and a day off. Emma is at daycare, until I go pick her up in a little while, so for now, it's relaxation time for this momma.

Hope everyone enjoy's their hump day!!

15 months old

Sorry I have been a little MIA with the blogging lately. Somehow, time has gotten away from me again. This last weekend, I courageously spent 6 hours in the car with Emma, by myself.

I ended up having Friday off, and John had to work Friday and had a wedding to shoot Saturday, so I decided to take Emma with me to go to Minnesota to visit the family. Emma did pretty well on the trip, she slept some of the trip, and I brought a ton of toys along to help keep her entertained.

She had a good time with the grandparents, even though she was a snotty, coughing mess the entire weekend. She was in a really good mood though, and enjoyed all the attention.

I also got to hang out with some friends from back home, so that was nice!

Emma had a lot of fun climbing into one of my mom's big pots and having us give her rides in them. It was really random, but hilarious.

Emma is 15 months old already. She is walking around like crazy, she's got all 4 molars popping through, and she doesn't say many words yet, but she keeps making new sounds and babbles a lot. Her sleeping habits are still good, she goes down around 8-8:30 and sleeps until around 7-7:30. I am loving the full nights of sleep!

Emma's likes
-Whole milk
-Meat (Emma will basically eat anything that we give her, but she especially loves meat, any kind of meat she just gobbles it up, vegetables are another story)
-Pacifiers (She still uses these damn things, but most of the time it is just at night time, and we hope to be rid of them soon)
-Being outside (She loves to play outside, and she can get kinda crabby when we don't let her)
-Car rides (As long as they are not three hours long, she likes her car rides)
-Emptying out all of our cupboards (We clean up the same messes day after day, it's a little annoying, but whatever keeps Emma entertained..)
-Mommy (Emma has a ridiculous attachment to me right now. Like if John takes her away from me, she just screams. She definitely is showing  a favorite right now, it makes me feel good, but I feel bad for John. But it's just a phase, and she will get over it eventually)
-Her puppy "Violet" and a purple penguin (These are her favorite stuffed animals and she squeals and hugs them whenever she sees them)
-Eating (When Emma is hungry, she wants to eat NOW, and not a second later)
-When mom or dad pick her up from daycare (Her face lights up, she squeals, and walks over to meet us, Cutest thing ever!!!)
-Daycare (She still likes daycare. They tell us she is very well behaved, gets along with others, and tends to be one of the quiet ones at daycare)
-Bananas, Cheerios, Peaches, Watermelon, Peanut Butter Bread (favorite foods!)
-Tongues, mouths (She is obsessed lately with touching our tongues, and putting her fingers in our mouth, kinda weird, but she is amazed by it)
-Bath time (She still loves her bath time and it really helps her relax before bedtime)

Emma's Dislikes
-Having her nose wiped/sucked out (With her teething, her nose has been running like crazy, we are constantly wiping it off, and she doesn't exactly love that)
-Anything where she has to lay still, like diaper changes and getting dressed
-Vegetables (Sometimes she eats them, and most of the time she doesn't...)
-Being tired (She does not handle being tired well, she fights sleep, gets restless, and gets really whiny)

Overall, Emma is doing really well, and we are very blest to have such an easy-going toddler. We love her so much, and it's hard to believe how fast she is growing up. I watch her walking around like a pro, and it's hard to believe how far she's come in just 15 months.

I think this is one of my favorite ages, and I look forward to all the new milestones to come!

P.S. I am more than ready for Emma to be done teething for a while. These molars have been kind of a nightmare. It is just constant snot and frequent coughing. It's been about a week, with no end in sight...

Labor Day

Whew, what a day. What a weekend!

Yesterday, the three of us had a picnic lunch at a park in Sioux Falls. The weather was gorgeous, so we decided to eat a lunch in the park and then play. It was really fun. Emma enjoyed it all, from eating on a blanket to running around the playground. We wore her out!

Today, we started off our Labor Day by going to a park again. We met up with John's cousin Marie and her daughter Abby, who is about a month older than Emma. They had fun playing together and spending some time outside on such a nice day.

After the park, we went to Catfish Bay, which is a ski show on the outer edge of town. It was pretty good. It was hot though. We sat in the direct sunlight for 2 hours straight, and we all got pretty sunburnt. Emma got a little fussy during the show too, it was kind of a long outing for her, and she got pretty warm as well.

We learned that if we go again, it will be in the evening time. It was cool to see all the jumps and flips, and it was free, so it was a good time.

It was a wonderful holiday weekend, but it was busy. We are all pretty shot in the Nelson household, and I am so not ready for work in the morning, but a routine might be nice again as well, and on this Labor Day I am grateful to have a job I love and can be proud of.

Happy Labor Day!!!

Happy September!!

Is it really September already? That's crazy! Although, I am enjoying the cool down. Today, it's only a high of 82 and the humidity is way less than it has been!

On Friday, Emma and I ended up going to the pool, and we had a blast. John joined us once he got off work, and we had a great family outing at the pool.

I had to work Saturday (boo), so John and Emma spent the day together. I was actually home at a decent time though, so I was able to have supper with them and then play with Emma and give her a bath.

I was called back to work at about 9:30pm and while I was gone at work, we had a hail storm hit our house. There was golf-sized hail, very strong winds, and rain. John said it was very loud when it was hitting the house-but Emma slept through the whole thing.

We walked around and assessed any damages this morning, and we have one window we need to replace, two screens, and a vent. Luckily, it isn't too bad and maybe our home insurance will help pay some of it.

So, this next week will consist of us fixing up our home. That good ol' South Dakota weather.

Today, we plan on spending some time outside, maybe at a park, and enjoying the cooler weather once Emma is awake from her nap. We might even have a picnic, which we have not done in a LONG time.

I do have Labor Day off as well, and we are planning on spending it with John's parents and attending a ski show at CatFish Bay. I don't really know what to expect, but it should be fun!

Hope everyone enjoys their Holiday Weekend :)
