Labor Day weekend has come and gone, so I guess summer is officially over. It's so hard to believe that we are already at the end of the summer, and in the full swing of school already. However, I love fall, so I'm not THAT sad to see summer go. I'm ready for the changing colors, sweatshirt weather, fall decorations, and eventually Halloween, bring it on!
Labor Day weekend was busy, but relaxing for us. The kids spent Friday out at the farm since there was no school. We met Jim and Barb and the kids at Lake Vermillion and did some fishing. It was a beautiful evening for fishing. Everyone had some good luck catching some little fish, so it was a success. We stayed until it got pretty dark out, and then we headed for home. We all really enjoyed the weather, company, and just relaxing and catching fish.
On Saturday, we tackled the South Dakota State Fair. It went pretty well, but it was really busy. The weather was perfect, it was 78 degrees, sunny, and just a beautiful day. So, the crowd was thick. We had a nice farmer's lunch for $0.35 a piece, and then we enjoyed walking about and checking everything out. Emma did really well on her projects again. She got 4 purples and 1 blue at the State Fair. We were very proud of her.
We spent the day checking out the commercial exhibits, the open class buildings, the 4-H building, and the midway. We walked a lot, and by the time we left (around 6:00pm) everyone was pretty pooped. We ate supper at Godfather's Pizza (blech) in Huron before we went home, and then we had a quiet ride home. It was a really fun day, but I was done with the fair by the time we left. Another successful trip. We also stopped at a Watermelon stand on the way home, and we got the tastiest watermelon ever. I am going to buy like 3 or 4 next year when we stop. YUM!
On Sunday, we went to church, and then Emma and I cleaned church, grocery shopped, and then went to the gym. While we did all this, the boys stayed home and organized their tackle box and did some manly things in the garage. It was a great catch up day!
Monday was Labor Day. We all had the day off, and no where to be, so we enjoyed ourselves. We slept in, and then the boys went fishing while Emma and I went to the gym and then we went to Skate City. Emma brought her roller blades and got a lot of practice in. I think she enjoyed herself, and she is slowing improving with her rollerblading. I also roller bladed. I'm proud to say I didn't wipe out, and I actually felt pretty good out there. It was fun.
After skating, we got some Cherry Berry and then we finally stayed home for the rest of the day. We cleaned a little, and then got ready for another week of school/work. John has actually been gone all week in Boston for a work conference, so I have been a single mom all week. It's actually gone pretty well. Katie helped out with a couple mornings to get kids to school, and then the kids went to Tomczak's house after school today, and I have tomorrow off now, so I can take them in and pick them up tomorrow. We miss dad, but we've had a good week.
This week has also been very hot. It was 96 degrees today, so it's not exactly feeling like September. The kids had their first Cross Country meet yesterday, and they both did very well. But it was hot, and they were happy it was over.
Tomorrow, Elliott has a birthday party and then a sleepover and Lily is coming for a sleepover with Emma. So, we have a busy weekend ahead. John gets home late tomorrow, and then we have the Sidewalk Arts Festival, Germanfest, and other things happening on Saturday. I don't think we will be bored.
These weeks are flying, but everyone is doing well!
