Basketball and Baby Chicks

It's been a hot minute since I've blogged. Life has been crazy and I lost track of time, but I'll try to catch you up on what's been going on.

Two weekends ago (yikes), we traveled all the way to York, NE for a basketball tournament. It was about a 4 hour drive (super boring). After a little bit of hotel drama, we ended up staying at the Victorian Inn. It was a little sketchy, but it was clean. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the pool, eating pizza, and playing some basketball in there as well. Bethel did lose all 4 games they played on Friday, but there was a lot of learning, and they were close in a couple of those games. On Saturday, they won their first game, and then lost, so it was time to go home. It was a fun weekend, but the traveling got kind of long, and everyone was ready to go home by Saturday.

Last weekend, we started our weekend with some SkyForce Basketball. The kids got free tickets for being in the kids club, so we all got to go to the game for free. It was pretty fun! There were kids' activities in the concourse, and they had a bouncy house for the kids as well. The basketball game was also pretty fun to watch, and then they had a dog show at halftime, which the kids really liked. We left after the halftime show, because we had an early morning on Saturday.

On Saturday, Emma had her last Bethel Basketball tournament of the year. We had to be in Watertown at 9:00 am for her first game, so we left home at 6:45 am. The Bethel team played 4 games total. We met mom and dad at the games, and enjoyed watching them play. The team went 1-3, but had a couple close games and played pretty well overall. Emma got a lot of playing time, and did really well. It's been really fun watching her grow as a basketball player all season. After the games, we got some dinner at Dempsey's and had a couple of beers. After that, we all enjoyed walking through the Terry Redlin Museum. The kids even enjoyed looking at all the paintings. We finished off our evening at the Watertown Brewing Company, and then we all headed home again. It was a fun, long, tiring day.

On Sunday, the kids sang in church, so we were there for early service, I taught Sunday school, and then the kids sang for the second service as well. We did some catch up at home, and then we headed out to Jim and Barb's house to see their baby chicks. The kids enjoyed holding and petting the chicks, and trying to name them all. It was pretty cute. Then, we all headed to Hartford for our 4-H meeting. Elliott did his first project talk ever, and did a really good job. Then, after the meeting, Barb did a horticulture talk for our 4-H meeting about seed packets and planting seeds. It was good, and everyone enjoyed it. After the meeting, we went to Pizza Ranch for supper, and then called it an evening. What. A. Weekend.

This past week has been pretty busy. About half the kids at school were out sick with either strep throat or some other sickness, luckily it seemed to miss our kids and they stayed healthy and in school all week. I, however, did not miss it, and I am suffering from a nasty cold. I made it through the work week, but barely. I've been surviving on cold medicine, naps, and early bedtimes. I am starting to feel a little better though, and hopefully I am over the worst of it.

This past Thursday night, Emma had her YMCA Basketball game. They only had 5 players again, and they played against Abby's team. I didn't go because I was feeling so sick, but Marie live streamed the whole game, so I was able to watch most of it that way. Emma had to play point guard, and struggled a little bit with that, but overall she did well. She scored 6 points, and had some really good passes and rebounds. Emma's team won, and they play in the Championship on Monday night, so that's exciting!

Last night, was the Parent/Player Game at Bethel and the end of the Basketball season. It's kind of sad, it was a fun season, and it was great to watch all the kids learn and improve over the season. John and I couldn't make it to the basketball game, so Jim and Barb went to watch the kids and then take them to their house for a sleepover. John and I went to the 9 Clouds Christmas Party, It was at Carnaval. It was delicious, and pretty fun. It took about 2 hours for us all to get seated, ordered, and then eat. It was nice to visit and catch up. I went home after Carnaval because I was shot from the week and not feeling well, and everyone else went to Gateway to finish the night.

Today is a lazy, catch up day. It's snowing outside, so I've been doing a little cleaning, and then taking a break to rest, and then cleaning again. I'm still not 100%, but slowly feeling better. A full night of rest was helpful. The kids are still out on the farm, so we will have to go get them later this evening. We have shopping plans, and we might get rid of our kitchen table today, so that's exciting.

This next week is spring break for the kids, so I have the whole next week off of work. We did have plans to go to MOA and hit up Nickelodeon Universe. However, winning the basketball game and the snow, has kind of changed those plans. So, we will see what the week brings. I'm looking forward to catching up on some things around the house, maybe working on some 4-H projects, and do some spring cleaning.

That's pretty much everything that's new around here. I'm looking forward to the week off, and all the possibilities. There might be some trips to the pool. skate city, maybe the old movie theatre. Also, I hope we see some signs of spring soon!!
