On Friday August 13, 2010 we had our groomsmen supper. We decided to skip the restaurant scene and we opted for a grill out at my parent's farm. I wanted to do the grill out for several reasons. First of all, it is much more casual. Everyone can bring a lawn chair and a few beers and socialize while they wait for the food to be done cooking over the wood.
Another reason I liked the idea of having a grillout is that everyone is able to mingle and socialize. We had bean bags and the golf game for entertainment. Later we had a campfire. I also liked that it is a lot less expensive to have people out on the farm as opposed to eating at a restaurant.
I had a blast at the groomsmen supper. It was a nice feeling having all those people from different times in my life out at the farm at the same time. Everyone visited with each other and seemed to have a good time. I played some bean bags, presented my wedding party with their gifts, and enjoyed some wonderful food.
The only down side to having a grillout is that you cannot regulate how long people stay. Luckily for us, everyone was pretty reasonable with how long they stayed. Everyone, except for about 8 people, left before it even got dark out.
Once it was dark, the remaining guests sat around the fire and reminisced about the good old days. The people that stayed later were friends from college and we talked about our college days. It made me realize just how much I miss my friends. It's easy to forget how much people mean to you when you haven't seen them in a while, but when you spend two solid days with them on the most important days of your life, you start to remember why these people were your friends in the first place.
Overall, I had a great time at the groomsmen supper. I got to talk to everyone, and enjoy a nice, relaxing evening before my wedding day. Looking back, I probably should have went to bed earlier than 12:30 am, but I couldn't pull myself away from all the college memories. Following this post I have some photos from the groomsmen supper. My next blog will be my wedding day blog, I am very excited for that one. As always, thanks for reading!
