Baby Nelson #2

I haven't really had a chance to express how I feel about being pregnant a second time. I am excited!!! Back in January, John and I had a discussion about having another child, and we decided to just not prevent anything, and see what happens.

Lo and behold, wouldn't you know about 2 months later, we found out we were expecting. It's definitely different the second time around. We are very excited to expand our family, but it's not quite the same excitement and it is way less fear, than I had the last time. I know what to expect this time around.

This pregnancy has been a little tougher on me. I had a lot of fatigue and some nausea during the first 8 weeks or so. I found out I was pregnant at about 4 weeks, but we didn't tell anybody until I was 10 weeks along, so we had secrets to keep again. And I had to be tricky about it, because I had to get through Easter and my birthday, without drinking, and without raising suspicion from my family.

Everyone is really excited again for the arrival of another baby. I have a hunch that it is a boy, just because this pregnancy has felt quite a bit different. I would be very happy with either outcome though. I think having a boy would be fun, and then I have one of each and I can be done with babies if that is what we decide. But another girl would be fun too, and I would love to give Emma a sister to grow up with.

We have told Emma about her baby brother or sister, but she doesn't quite understand yet. Maybe when I get big enough to look like there is a baby in my belly, she will start to understand. I am a little nervous about how she will react to a baby, she is used to having all the attention and jealousy may be a problem. Also, she is such a mommy's girl, and if I am feeding the baby or spending some quality time with the baby, I can see her getting mad and maybe even being mean to the baby. But I guess that's just part of it, and she will adjust eventually.

We have a couple of tough tasks ahead of us before the baby comes. We need to wean Emma off her pacifier which is going to be an epic battle, and then we also need to transition her out of her crib and into a toddler or a twin bed, so that little baby nelson #2 can have the crib when he/she is born. So, we have our work cut out for us.

I am also a little apprehensive about jugging two kids. We have finally mastered taking care of one child, two is going to be another story. I am very excited for the challenge, but being sleep deprived from a newborn and chasing a toddler around is going to be nothing short of exhausting.

But we are very excited! I can't wait for newborn snuggles, tiny toes and fingers, and all the firsts that we will experience in the baby's first year. I also can't wait to see what kind of big sister Emma will become.

P.S. Chasing Emma around is going to be really fun in another couple of months. And lugging her around. Pregnancy and toddlers don't exactly mesh well together :)

Sunshine and fun :)

I just can't seem to keep up on my blogging lately. The weeks fly by, and the weekends go even faster because we are usually busy, busy, busy.

This last week, the weather was finally nice. We have been spending more evening outside drawing with sidewalk chalk or blowing bubbles. We have also been visiting some parks, which Emma has been loving.

We also have had some friends over for some grill-outs, which has been nice being able to catch up with friends.

Last weekend was Memorial Day, and I had to work on Saturday and Sunday, which was kinda a bummer. Monday we spent the day as a family, and it was really nice. We just bummed around in the morning, and after that we went to Menards to spruce up our backyard. We bought some new Tiki Torches, patio lights, and an LED Lantern that changes colors. I really like how it all came together.

I also took Emma swimming for the first time of the summer the other day. She screamed at me while I put her swimsuit on, but then she loved the pool. It was just a little chilly with the breeze, but it didn't seem to bother Emma. She then proceeded to scream and cry at me when I decided we were done swimming and had to take her out of her swimsuit. That silly, little girl.

After swimming, we met John at the zoo to see the new baby Giraffe. We wandered around the entire zoo, and Emma was pretty shot by the end of it.

Today, is an Emma and mommy day. We have spent the morning playing both in the basement, and spending lots of time outside. We even went for the first bike ride of the summer. Right now, Emma is taking a much-needed nap, and I am taking a much-needed break. I also have swimming and playing in the park on the agenda for this afternoon. Emma has no idea how much fun she's in for today :)

Twins Baseball Weekend

This past weekend was crazy busy. Friday, we headed to my parent's house and spent the evening visiting and hanging out.

Emma was so excited to see Grandpa and she got to have a tractor, bobcat, and Ranger ride. She was in seventh heaven.

Saturday, was a crazy, busy day. But it was a lot of fun. Emma stayed with Grandma Patty all day and got to hang out on the farm burning off all sorts of energy.

John and I left for the Twin Cities at around 10 am and stopped in Glencoe at Bump's for some breakfast. We also stopped at Mills Fleet Farm along the way and found some goodies. Once in the cities, we drove to Mall of America and did some shopping at Ikea. We found Emma a potty chair and a step stool, and of course found all sorts of all things to buy.

After strolling around Ikea forever, we got on the light rail and rode it to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis. It was a gorgeous day, and the park was beautiful, it was so much fun just strolling around and enjoying the weather.

We stopped at Sea Salt, a seafood restaurant in the middle of the park. It was pretty good. We got calamari to share and then I got shrimp tacos and John got fish tacos. It was good, but then I was full for Target Field and I was kinda bummed I didn't get to eat any stadium food.

By the time we meandered to Target Field, it was basically game time. We found our seats, which were pretty nice, and enjoyed a beautiful night of Twins baseball. They actually won for us as well. It was such a fun night!

We got back to my parent's house around 11:00pm, which wasn't too bad, but we were pretty shot. Sunday was a day of sleeping in (thank God) and then we high tailed it to Brookings for Katie's Confirmation.

Emma did not miss us once bit on Saturday. Her and my mom had a blast, and she was a little Grandma's girl for the rest of the weekend. Mom and dad were old news and Grandma was her favorite. It was pretty cute :)

The confirmation party was ok, we were all kinda tired and just ready to be home. Once we got home and unpacked, we relaxed for a while and then headed to bed early, it was a busy, exhausting weekend. But it was so fun!

P.S. We finally told all of our family, and made it Facebook official, we are having another baby!!! Emma is going to be a big sister. We are so excited to expand our family :)

Birthday/Nurse's Week/Mother's Day

May is a busy month, there are a lot of celebrations going on. I turned 27 a couple weeks ago-which is so crazy! I can't believe I'm inching up to 30. What is going on?

It was also Nurse's Week last week, which is always a nice way to be honored for the hard work us nurses do everyday. We had a lot of food and treats at work all week, and it was awesome :)

Last Tuesday evening, it was nice out for once, so we took Emma to the zoo. It was awesome because we were like the only people there, so we were able to just let Emma run around and do her own thing. And she had a blast!!

We had a busy weekend again, and we had some nice weather as well. On Saturday, we brought some lunch out to the Greenhouse and then stayed out there and "helped" with the customers. Basically, we supervised Emma who had a ball playing in the sandbox and running through the Greenhouses. We also picked out the plants for our garden and our planters.

Jim and Barb bought some chicks a couple weeks ago, so we had to show them to Emma. Also she begged for a "ride" on the 4-wheeler.

After a fun afternoon on the farm, we headed back into town to go to Abby's second birthday party. Emma had a blast running around with all the kids and playing with all the new toys.

Sunday was a little quieter day. We went to church, John went to softball practice, and Emma and I took a long afternoon nap. Emma battled a cold all weekend, and she didn't sleep much on Saturday with all the activity, so Sunday was a day to catch up.

We did eventually make a trip to Costco, Target, and then we ate some supper at Zoup. It was a great weekend, but very busy.

This week has been cold, rainy, and just kind of depressing. I am not a fan of highs in the 50s in the middle of May. But the week is half over, and on Friday we are heading to Minnesota again, because we have a Twins Game to attend on Saturday. Should be fun!

Have a great week!

A Minnesota Weekend :)

Wow, it's been a couple weeks since I last blogged. Time has gotten away from me, and it's been incredibly busy over here in the Nelson household.

Let's see, what's been going on the last couple weeks. I have been busy at work, and of course busy at home chasing Emma around. John has been pretty busy taking Wedding and Confirmation Pictures, as well as working.

I hit up some Garage Sales two weekends ago, and I had some pretty good luck finding Emma some clothes, and I found her a pedal trike for $5. Emma loves playing on her trike, but she hasn't quite figured out how to use the pedals.

This past weekend, we headed to Minnesota to hang out with family. Poor Emma did not get much sleep on our get-away, but it was a fun weekend.

We got to my parent's house at around 8:30pm on Friday night. Emma did sleep for part of the trip, but once we got to my parent's she was all amped up and excited to be playing with new toys and people. And she was obsessed with my parent's dog Zander.  Emma didn't go to bed until 10:00pm, it was a late night for everyone!

On Saturday, Mom, Emma, and I went Garage Sailing around Fairfax in the morning. After that, the entire family went to Gaylord to eat some lunch and then visit Grandma and Grandpa Kloeckl.

The rest of the day was spent hanging out at Mom and Dad's house just chilling and playing some games.

Sunday, we went to church, and then to Kyle's Confirmation Party. It was nice to see all the extended family and catch up with them. Emma finally took a much needed nap after the party, and shortly after that we made the treck back to South Dakota.

It was a great weekend, but it was very busy and over in a flash. I had today off, and have spent most of the day cleaning the house and catching up with things around the house.
