On Thursday, we went to Brookings to have Thanksgiving at Dennis and Jenny's house. It was a great day, filled with good food, games, and a lot of socializing. Even the kids had a blast. We spent the entire day at their house, and then the kids went to Jim and Barb's house for the night so John and I could do some Black Friday shopping. We went to Walmart in Brookings, which was a little crazier this year. We went at around 7pm, so there were still a lot of people there shopping. It was pretty fun. We had a lot of good luck, spent a lot of money, and got the kids done for the Christmas. We also got each other a Christmas gift, which is a Shark Roomba. We love it, and it is keeping our floors really clean.
After Walmart, we checked out JC Penny, which didn't really have much going on, and then we headed back to Sioux Falls. We went to the Walmart in Sioux Falls once we got back, and it was much more relaxed and enjoyable. We found a couple things we couldn't find in Brookings, and then we called it a night.
On Friday, we got packed up, got the kids and then headed to Minnesota to beat the winter storm that was coming. We ended up having great weather for our drive and we made it to my parent's house by 4:00pm. We enjoyed supper with the parents (Elliott ate 6 meatballs!!) and then just had a quiet evening at their house. Elliott got to open a birthday present, so he had fun playing with that the rest of the night. He got a Lego set and a Spiderman dart gun. He was in heaven.
Saturday was a day of preparation for the Thanksgiving celebration. We had Thanksgiving in the shed this year, and we celebrated with both side of the family. The weather was kinda crappy for the day, but everyone was able to make it, and we had a nice time catching up with everyone. It was definitely weird to not have Grandpa there, but it was really nice to spend time with the family we still have.
The food was great, Elliott was able to open a couple more birthday presents, and we all had a pretty good time. Everyone left pretty early since the weather wasn't very nice. So, John and I spent the evening at Ryan's house just enjoying the quiet and being able to visit among ourselves.
Sunday was basically just a travel day. We were going to go to church and help decorate for Christmas, but they canceled church because of the weather. So, we drove back home in the crappy weather. We had a slow drive back home, but it wasn't too terrible. We did see one semi jack-knifed, so we just took our time and were careful. We made it home without any problems, and just settled in and enjoyed being home.
This past week has flown by. We are in advent season, so between some late evenings, homework, piano lessons, Advent services, and reading with the kids, our days are a blur. Tonight we had Elliott's daycare Christmas program. It's his last one this year. That's hard to believe. It's a nice program that they put on, and it was really cute. But, I'm not going to miss the crowded church where it's really hard to see anything.
I'm really excited for this weekend. We are heading to Pierre on Saturday to see Christmas at the Capitol. The Capitol building has a hundred Christmas trees all decorated to see, along with some entertainment. We have been talking about going for like 3 years, and we are finally going to go. There are also a couple museums we want to check out. I think it will be a really fun trip. I love the holiday season!!
