This past weekend, we were super busy all weekend. Friday evening, we had the church campout with Sure Foundation and Good Shepherd at Big Sioux Rec Area. We couldn't actually camp this year, but we decided to just go for the evening.
We had a fun evening of good food, good fellowship and nice weather. There was even a bike parade for the kids and they had friends to play with, so they were in heaven. We stayed until around 9:00 pm and then headed home.
On Saturday morning, we headed to Minnesota. John and Elliott dropped Emma and I off at the Fairfax Community Center for Katie's wedding shower. We met up with Mom, Rachel and Elena and Emily there. It was a nice shower. We didn't know a ton of people there, but it was nice, and there were muffins, donuts, and mimosas, so that was nice.
We left a little early, because I had plans to take the kids swimming at the Fairfax Pool. However, they had staffing issues and didn't know if they would even be open, so we scrapped those plans. Instead, I invited Samantha over so I could meet her adorable baby girl finally. So, we visited with Sam for a while, and played with Skyler, while the kids all played together on the farm.
At about 3:00pm, Sam and Skyler left, and the rest of us headed to Grandview Winery to celebrate Rachel's 40th Birthday. We had a great time with plenty of pizza, wine and beer. We drank our first round on empty stomachs, so we got a little loud and rowdy for a while. But we were having fun. When we got back home (like 3 hours later) we had a campfire. It was a beautiful evening, and it was nice to sit out and enjoy it. Michelle came over and joined us for a while. Then, we finally hit the hay.
On Sunday, we left the farm after a big breakfast for the cities. Back in March, we bought some Twins tickets for $4 each. They are standing room only, but we had no problem finding placed to sit. We decided to go to the ballpark early since they were handing out Twins lunch boxes to the first 5000 kids. We parked, and made it to the gate at around 11:15 am. The kids each got a lunch box, and they really love them.
Then, we walked around for a while and checked out the ballpark and shopped. We also visited with Sue, the organ lady. She gave Emma some sheet music to practice, so that was pretty cool. Then, right before the game was supposed to start, it started raining, So, we had a 2 hour rain delay. We spent that feeding the kids and walking around some more. Elliott all of a suddenly became a giant Twins fan, especially Carlos Correa. So, we got him a jersey, a pennant, and a keychain. He was in heaven.
The game finally started at 3:20pm. The kids enjoyed the game and Elliott was really engaged and asked a lot of questions. We talked about leaving the game in the 5th inning, but Elliott and Emma really wanted to stay and watch and then run the bases at the end of the game. So, we stayed. I'm sure glad we did. The Twins ended up winning the game with a walk off home run. It was amazing!! The kids loved it, and they are still talking about it.
After the Twins won, we got in line for running the bases. That was pretty cool. We got to walk around the warning track. We saw the bullpen, the centerfield wall, the dugout, and then the bases. Emma even got in trouble for running into the centerfield wall (like she was trying to catch a fly ball). The kids ran the bases, and we enjoyed some field selfies and gawking around. Then, it was finally time to leave.
We made it out of the Twin Cities in pretty good time. We made one stop on the way home at a Kwik Trip for some supper, and then drove straight through to home. We made it home at 11:00pm. We were all pretty beat, but we had such a good day.
We were not ready for a full week of work, but we did it, and we survived. Now, we are in full fair prep. The fair pretty much starts in 2 days. Tomorrow, the kids and I are baking our little faces off, and doing the final touches of our 4H projects. This is a busy, but fun week for us, so we are all looking forward to it.
I can't believe school starts in less than 2 weeks! Where did summer go?!
