Biking in Yankton

My husband has been telling me that Yankton is a great place to go camping, and they have really nice bike trails. We didn't feel like going camping for the entire weekend, so we just brought the bikes down to Yankton for the day. It's about an hour and 15 minute drive to Yankton. It was also Riverboat Days while we were in Yankton, so we grabbed some lunch in town before hitting up the bike trails.

The bike trails were very nice and the view was beautiful as we were able to bike along the water. The temperature was great, the sun was shining, the weather was just about perfect, and then came the mayflies. I have never seen mayflies so thick. We eventually had to take the trails further from the water, just so we wouldn't be biking through a wall of mayflies. They covered campers, trees, and fences. They took some of the fun out of the beautiful day.

We still enjoyed our bike ride!

We also visited Gavin's Point Dam, which is very high right now due to all the flooding from earlier this summer/spring. All the flood gates are still open, so there is a lot of water flowing through the dam right now!

It was a fun trip to Yankton, and I look forward to going again and actually staying for the weekend to do some camping. Hopefully the mayfly population won't be so high the next time!
